Head coach – Simeon Wakely
Simeon started at the club when it first launch back in early 2009 as a junior player. Simeon progressed through the club first for the under 15’s and then for the junior national league to the under 19’s. When Simeon’s time came to decide what he would like to do next due to his age, he decided he would like to be a coach, Simeon had the opportunity to coach at our temporary satellite club and attends every Sunday at scorpions coaching both of our beginners and advanced players. He is also a first aider for the club.
Team Manager – Mary Leighton
Mary Leighton came to the club in 2016. Her daughter Georgia became a player and then her sister Keira. Georgia went on her level 1 wheelchair basketball coach in November 2017 and past. I am a childminder. I have been since 2006. I have food hygiene, 1st aid and safeguarding.
Treasurer – Owen Lewis
Owen has been a member of the primary school’s PTA for two years but will stepping down to help out at the Scorpions. At work Owen manages a data analysis department at the Environment Agency which covers the whole country. He also volunteers to help crisis management teams, for example when flooding causes public distress. Owen is married to Katy and has a son called Ben who is apart of the beginners group.
Safe Guarding officer – Nik Terrell
Nik became part of the South West Scorpions through a County Athlete Assessment Day in 2011 which her secondary school put her forward for. She trained with the Scorpions’ U19’s and Women’s Team until and has remained within the wheelchair basketball community through alternative endeavours. She has experiences in child development and safeguarding practice and procedures.
